IoWA-PCIT Training Agreement
These are the minimum training component requirements for all IoWA-PCIT trainees. IoWA-PCIT training is strictly for Licensed Clinicians. Those who complete the minimum requirements will be considered graduated.
IoWA-PCIT Training Components
Component 1
Participate in 1 hour of IoWA-PCIT Pre-Work (1 day, virtual)
Component 2: Participate in 30 hours of IoWA-PCIT Part 1 training (5 days)
Trainees must complete Part 1 before they are able to move on to Part 2. If extenuating circumstances prevent the trainee from completing Part 1, the trainee must communicate with the trainers in advance to form a plan to recoup the missed training time. Additional costs may occur.
Component 3: Participate in 18 hours of IoWA-PCIT Part 2 training (3 days)
Trainees must complete all of Part 1 and Part 2 to be considered graduated. If extenuating circumstances prevent the trainee from completing Part 2, the trainee must communicate with the trainers in advance to form a plan to recoup the missed training time. Additional costs may occur.
- In the case of in-person trainings:
- Trainees are responsible for their own accommodation and travel expenses, i.e. hotels, parking, and meals.
- Trainees are expected to attend the entire training.
- No refunds will be processed once Part 1 commences.
- In the case of virtual trainings, including Pre-Work:
- Trainees are expected to attend the entire training.
- Trainees are expected to have cameras on throughout the entire training.
- No refunds will be processed once Part 1 commences.
- Materials:
Component 4: Participate in ongoing Consultation Calls
- Trainees are expected to attend at least 75% of calls during the 12-month training period (a minimum of 9 calls).
- Trainees are expected to have cameras on during all calls.
- Trainees are expected to provide updates regarding current cases.
- Trainees are expected to participate in private spaces for confidentiality throughout the entire duration of calls. If a private space is unavailable trainees are expected to make accommodations for confidentiality such as using ear buds or headphones.
Component 5: Complete Core Competencies Checklist
In order to be considered graduated, IoWA-PCIT trainees must demonstrate the following by the end of the 12-month training period:
- Meet caregiver criteria for CDI mastery.
- Achieve 80% reliability with IoWA-PCIT Trainer on 5-minute CDI coding.
- Use CDI teach session to engage caregivers by explaining CDI, rationales for CDI, and how CDI will help their child and family.
- Demonstrate effective CDI coaching.
- Use child’s problem behaviors to develop positive opposite/alternative behaviors that could be reinforced.
- Demonstrate understanding of the importance of the reunion in evaluating attachment.
- Demonstrate understanding of secure, ambivalent/resistant, avoidant, and disorganized attachment.
- Use understanding of working models of attachment to empathize with family and tailor coaching.
- Score and interpret the ECBI.
- Provide an overview of PDI procedures and PDI rollout.
- Explain the rules for effective commands.
- Review PDI procedure with caregivers.
- Address caregiver concerns about PDI.
- Met caregiver criteria for mastery of PDI.
- Demonstrate effective PDI coaching.
- Successfully complete two PCIT cases.
IoWA-PCIT Payment Extension
Trainees who do not meet the above minimum requirements by the end of the original 12-month training timeline can request an additional 6 months of Consultation Calls. Additional costs will be associated with the extension.
